The exhibition waThe exhibition seeks to present Josef Šíma’s early work from his beginnings inBrnoto his encounter with the poets of the remarkable and today somehow legendary French group Le Grand Jeu and show to what extent his involvement in this adventure was one of the key impulses for his work. In the brief period of 1929–1931, Šíma became the chief artist of the group and the other members–poets were busy interpreting his artworks.ill show Kupka’s entire oeuvre, from his early works of the 1890s to his abstract artworks of the 1950s. Owing to cooperation with the French partner, a unique collection of oil paintings, works on paper, prints and documentary material could be assembled, and will be presented in the Grand Palais in Paris in spring 2018, then in the National Gallery in Prague in autumn 2019 (in an altered form) and then the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki in spring 2019.
