CARNATIONS AND VELVET / ART AND REVOLUTION IN PORTUGAL AND CZECHOSLOVAKIA 1968–1974–1989

Praha - Městská knihovna The project features works of Czechoslovak artists, the legendary personalities who were of crucial importance for the formation of contemporary art in their diverse responses to the totalitarian regime, namely Adriena Šimotová, Eva Kmentová, Květa Válová, Jitka Válová, Jiří Kovanda, Petr Štembera, Karel Miler, Jan Mlčoch, Milan Knížák, Václav Havel, Jiří Kolář, Július Koller, Ľubomír Ďurček, Mária Bartuszová, Jana Želibská and many others. They will be juxtaposed with their Portuguese contemporaries such as Helena Almeida, Lourdes Castro, Ana Vieira, Ana Hatherly, Fernando Calhau, Manuel Alvess, António Barros, Silvestre Pestana, Alberto Carneiro, Ernesto de Sousa, Álvaro Lapa a José de Guimarães. Space will also be given to the younger generation of artists who reflect the theme of both totalitarian regimes, such as Zbyněk Baladrán, Carla Filipe and Ana de Almeida.

Praha - Palác Kinských The exhibition provides details about the presence of Czech artists in Brittany in 1850–1950, and evaluates how they depicted its rough landscape or traditional motifs and the influence of the Pont-Aven school on their work or its unique character. Works by Czech artists (such as Jaroslav Čermák, Antonín Chitussi, Alfons Mucha, Josef Čapek, František Kupka, Jan Zrzavý, Alén Diviš, Toyen, Jan Křížek) are presented and compared to paintings by foreign artists, such as Paul Gauguin, Paul Sérusier and Émil Bernard.
BOHEMIA: HISTORY OF AN IDEA 1950 - 2000

Praha - Kunsthalle From post-war Paris and New York, through swinging London, to the free spirits of Tehran and Beijing. Kunsthalle Praha explores the idea of bohemia. Bohemia brings together artworks by thirty-seven artists, among them personalities as diverse as Alice Neel, Wolfgang Tillmans, Nan Goldin, Libuše Jarcovjáková, Bijan Saffari, Martin Wong, Stan Douglas, David Wojnarowicz, Roy Arden, and many others. Some of these artists will be shown alongside each other for the first time, and most of them have rarely had their work exhibited in the Czech Republic.
BOHEMIA-SAXONY: SO CLOSE AND YET SO FAR

Praha - Šternberský palác This large exhibition will focus on Saxony and Bohemiafor the first time, namely on their dynamic mutual relations, detailing the close ties between their inhabitants, bilateral conflicts and reconciliations. The display makes it possible to handle the historical context broadly and explain the differences between Saxony and Bohemiaas well as their like-mindedness in the European context.
