Painter, draughtsman and graphic artist Wallerant Vaillant (1623, Lille – 1677, Amsterdam) is a distinct, though generally lesser-known representative of the 17th century Dutch and Flemish Golden Age painting. A successful portrait painter, he is primarily renowned as the first professional graphic artist working in mezzotint – and that work is presented at this small exhibition.
